In 1970,our family was moving back to the lower 48 from Adak, Alaska (the end We had intended to move back to Montana, our home state until we landed at Sea-Tac Airport and fell instantly in love with Western Washington. A beautiful spring day after a month of cold, windy weather was enough to convince us and we immediately bought a business and bought our first home in Lacey. Halfway between Seattle and Portland, close to Tacoma, the Pacific Ocean, and the Olympic and Cascade Mountains make this area a pure delight with lots of activities to keep anyone busy. Lacey is the youngest of the Tri-Cities of Tumwater, Olympia, and Lacey with a population of 55,000 residents. As such, has a reputation of being a very progressive city with lots of innovative new ideas. Central to Lacey’s core is that 30% of its residents are members of the US Military. With Joint Base Lewis McChord (JBLM) a short distance away, it makes for a more affordable housing choice for families and young adults. With a great infusion of apartments and new construction homes recently in the area housing is fairly easy to find and is a less expensive option than the areas north. Senior adults are not forgotten as there are 2 very large over-55 communities, Jubilee and Ovation, and several large apartment complexes for over-55 all conveniently located.
